Exclusive: Umesh Yadav in Ujjain — Mahakaleshwar Bhasma Aarti
Ujjain, April 3 (IANS) — Indian fast bowler Umesh Yadav visited the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain on Friday morning with his wife, Tanya Wadhwa, and took part in the Bhasma Aarti, the traditional ash ceremony. After the visit, Yadav said he often comes to the temple to seek blessings and described the experience as particularly special this time.
“The experience was very good. I keep coming here often, and as they say, you can’t come here without being called,” Yadav said, adding that it felt wonderful to have “Baba’s darshan.” He said he sought the deity’s blessings for his upcoming plans and for the future.
“I just hope my life continues to improve and that all my work goes well. I also pray for the well-being of everyone in the world — may Baba’s blessings always be upon all,” he added.
Yadav made his India debut in 2010 and has been a reliable pace option across formats. Over his international career he has played 141 matches and taken 288 wickets at an average of 31.62, with best innings figures of 6 for 88. He has three five-wicket hauls and one ten-wicket match haul, highlighting his impact in longer formats.
In Tests specifically, Yadav has claimed 170 wickets in 57 matches at an average of 30.95, often providing important breakthroughs alongside India’s spin attack. He has also contributed in limited-overs cricket, taking 106 wickets in 75 ODIs and 12 wickets in nine T20Is for the national side.
Yadav’s last appearance for India came in 2023, when he played a Test against Australia during the home Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His visit to Mahakaleshwar underscores the personal faith and routine that the veteran pacer maintains between playing commitments.
