Delhi-NCR Faces Urgent Yellow Alert: Brace for Intense Rain and Dust Storms Amid Western Disturbances!
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the Delhi-NCR region, signaling the possibility of dust storms accompanied by light rainfall. The alert encompasses North Delhi, North-West Delhi, Central Delhi, South Delhi, as well as Gurugram and Faridabad. According to the IMD, conditions are favorable for a dust storm followed by a thunderstorm, including lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 60–80 km/h, particularly affecting areas such as Farukhnagar, Kosali, Mahendargarh, Sohna, Rewari, Palwal, Narnaul, Bawal, and Nuh in Haryana, as well as Bhiwadi and Khairthal in Rajasthan.
In addition to the yellow alert, light rainfall mixed with gusty winds of 30–40 km/h is anticipated in regions including Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Narwana, Karnal, and others across Haryana. This weather pattern is also expected to impact parts of Uttar Pradesh, with similar alerts issued for Shamli, Kandhla, Baraut, and Baghpat. The IMD forecasts that temperatures in Delhi will peak between 32°C and 34°C, dropping to around 20.4°C overnight.
Haryana is also under varying alerts today; several districts, including Sirsa and Kurukshetra, are on yellow alert, while areas like Hisar and Rohtak have been issued orange alerts.
The present weather developments in northern India are attributed to a western disturbance originating from northern Iran and the Caspian Sea, combined with active cyclonic circulations over north-west Rajasthan. Another western disturbance is forecasted to approach on 2 April, potentially bringing light rainfall to Delhi on 3 and 4 April.
In northern states, the IMD predicts fairly light to moderate rainfall and snowfall, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and gusty winds ranging from 30 to 50 km/h. This is anticipated over Jammu and Kashmir, with similar conditions expected in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand over the coming days. Specifically, isolated thunderstorms and rain are forecasted for Uttarakhand on 31 March.
The situation won’t be limited to the northern regions; isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds, is expected across Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Chandigarh until the end of March. The Kashmir Valley might experience isolated heavy rainfall or snowfall on 30 March, while there’s a chance of hailstorms over Punjab, east Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand on the same day.
Residents are advised to stay updated on changing weather conditions, as the IMD will continue to monitor developments closely. Stay tuned for further updates as this weather system unfolds.
