PM Modi Inaugurates Noida International Airport Phase 1: Viksit Bharat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the first phase of the Noida International Airport in Gautam Buddha Nagar district, Uttar Pradesh, marking a significant expansion of aviation capacity and connectivity for the Delhi-NCR region. During the visit he toured the terminal building and was presented with a sacred artefact of Lord Buddha; the Prime Minister hailed the launch as “a new chapter of viksit Bharat.”
The new airport is being pitched as a key international gateway for the National Capital Region and a major step in India’s broader push to become a global aviation hub. Officials and industry observers say the facility will strengthen regional and international links while adding critical infrastructure to support rising passenger and cargo demand.
Developed as a second international gateway alongside the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi, Noida International Airport is intended to operate in tandem with IGI to form an integrated aviation network for the NCR. Together the two airports are expected to relieve congestion at the capital’s primary airport, expand overall passenger capacity and improve operational resilience for the region.
The airport’s cargo terminal has been designed to handle more than 2.5 lakh metric tonnes annually, with plans to scale capacity up to 18 lakh metric tonnes in the future. Planners say this freight capability will boost trade links and support the region’s logistics and export sectors as passenger services grow.
