Sijo Jacob’s Suicide Note Reappears, Names BJP Candidate Vijay Gupta
A handwritten note purporting to be a suicide note by Guwahati-based businessman Sijo Jacob has resurfaced online, accusing BJP candidate Vijay Gupta of responsibility for Jacob’s death. The note, addressed to “Mr Vijay Gupta, Assam BJP” and bearing a mobile number attributed to him, opens in block letters: “TAKE THIS AS MY SUICIDE NOTE. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MY TODAY’S LIFE SITUATION AND MY REASON FOR DEATH.” The document is dated February 27, 2024.
Jacob, 47, was found dead in Room 206 of Hotel Assembly in Shillong’s Khyndailad area after checking in on February 28, 2024. Hotel staff alerted authorities when he failed to check out for several days. Police entered the room in the presence of witnesses and found him lying on the bed with blood stains near his mouth. Preliminary findings cited a possible overdose of sedatives and anti-depressants and reported no signs of foul play.
The note circulating online lays out detailed allegations of financial wrongdoing tied to an Aadhaar-related government project. Jacob wrote that around Rs 1.20 crore collected from investors for EMD and PBG requirements was deposited into accounts of Galaxy Scales & Systems Pvt. Ltd., a firm he said was introduced into the project through Rajendra Gupta, a relative of Vijay Gupta. He alleged investors were not paid their dues and accused Gupta of having no stake in the venture before taking control.
Writing “with a heavy heart, brimming with disappointment and righteous anger,” Jacob accused Gupta of manipulating the project and wrote, “You, the puppeteer, pulled strings, danced on my vulnerability, and left me gasping for air while you danced a shameless victory dance.” He also alleged that Silver Touch Technologies Ltd. was used to sideline him and other “rightful players,” and said an assured 25 per cent share in profits “remained a cruel illusion.”
In the note’s closing, Jacob appealed for official inquiry: “I implore you — take proper enquiry and return the money to the deserved people who invested their time and money in the Aadhaar project. Let truth prevail.” He addressed Gupta directly with a final warning—“Vijay Ji, hear this: if curses held power, yours would echo through SEVEN GENERATIONS”—before concluding the note with “GO TO HELL!”, his signature, a thumb impression, and the February 27, 2024 date.
Originally from Thrissur, Kerala, Jacob had lived in Guwahati for more than 15 years. He ran an IT training centre in Naharlapur before moving to the city in 2008 and founded webzines including Fit Northeast and East Echo; he was also associated with the now-defunct Business Northeast magazine and held a Master’s degree in Computer Applications. The resurfacing of the note has revived questions about the financial allegations and prompted calls-at least within the note itself-for a formal probe.
