Manipur: KSO Sadar Hills Slams PHED Negligence — 48-Hour Ultimatum
The Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), Sadar Hills, on March 26, 2026 sharply accused officials of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and the Tribal Affairs & Hills (TA&Hills) Department in Kangpokpi of “chronic negligence, dereliction of duty and administrative apathy,” and issued a 48-hour ultimatum after a surprise inspection of their offices. The student body said the alleged failures were harming essential public services across the district.
In a statement, KSO Sadar Hills said it had received repeated complaints from residents about “irregularities and persistent absenteeism” by the Executive Engineer of PHED, Kangpokpi Division, and the Deputy Director of TA&Hills. The organisation said those complaints prompted members to verify the claims directly.
KSO members conducted a surprise inspection earlier in the day at both departmental offices located within the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) Office Complex. The student body claimed the visit confirmed alleged irregular attendance and administrative inefficiency, which it said were severely affecting service delivery.
Describing the situation as a “systemic collapse of accountability,” KSO issued a 48-hour deadline for the implicated officials to report to duty regularly and immediately resume their responsibilities. The organisation demanded the officials show “genuine commitment” to resolving public grievances.
The KSO warned that if the officials fail to comply within the stipulated time, they would have “no moral ground to continue in office” and should consider stepping down if non-performance persists. The student body said such steps would be necessary to restore public trust.
KSO also cautioned that it would be compelled to initiate “necessary democratic actions” if its demands are not met, stressing it would not remain a “silent spectator” to what it described as blatant negligence.
The development occurs amid growing public dissatisfaction over the functioning of key service departments in Kangpokpi, where residents have increasingly voiced concerns about delays and inefficiencies in basic service delivery.
