Congress Mobilizes, Files Nominations in Assam; Gogoi to Lead Jorhat
Congress leaders and their alliance partners will file nomination papers across Assam on March 23, the final day of the submission process, stepping up formal preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections. Party organisers said candidates across key constituencies will complete their filings on time, marking a crucial procedural step ahead of polling.
APCC president Gaurav Gogoi is scheduled to lead a rally in Jorhat before submitting his nomination from the constituency. The rally will start at Jorhat Stadium and move toward the District Commissioner’s office, party sources said.
In Guwahati, Dispur candidate Mira Borthakur Goswami began her day at her residence and offered prayers at Ganesh Mandir before proceeding to file her nomination. New Guwahati candidate Shantanu Bora is expected to gather with party workers at Rajiv Bhawan and then move to the DC office to submit his papers.
Jalukbari candidate Bidisha Neog will take out a procession from her residence in Garchuk prior to filing her nomination, according to campaign officials.
In Sonitpur district, Congress nominees Kartik Kurmi (Rangapara), Batas Orang (Dhekiajuli) and Sunil Chettri (Naduar) are slated to file their nomination papers at 11 AM.
Party sources said preparations have been completed across constituencies and that candidates will adhere to the deadline. Filing nomination papers is the formal step that registers candidates for the ballot and sets the stage for subsequent campaigning and election procedures.
