BJP Releases Second Candidate List: Two New Nominees Revealed
The BJP announced two new candidates for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections on Saturday, March 21, naming Krishna Saha for Dalgaon (51) and Jiban Gogoi for Sissibargaon (79). The move fills the last outstanding seat after the party earlier released candidates for 88 other constituencies as it works to finalise its full election roster.
The party said the nominations were issued from its headquarters in New Delhi and carry the approval of the central leadership. The announcements follow a March 19 statement by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma that 88 of 89 assembly seats had been allocated, with Sissibargaon then still pending.
Sarma has emphasised that the BJP’s candidate list seeks to reflect social diversity, including women, young leaders, Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and members of the Nath community. He added that party workers across Assam are satisfied with the selections and confident the BJP can post strong results in the polls.
Under the NDA alliance, the BJP has reserved 26 constituencies for its regional partner, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), as part of seat-sharing arrangements for the 2026 assembly contest.
