Indore Man Refutes Police EV-Charging Blast Claim After Fire Kills 8
A survivor of a deadly house fire in Indore said on Thursday that the blaze, which killed eight members of a family, was not caused by an electric vehicle (EV) charging point-a claim that contradicts police statements that an explosion at a charger triggered the tragedy. The fire broke out early on Wednesday at businessman Manoj Pugalia’s home in Brajeshwari Annexe Colony and quickly engulfed the structure.
The victims included Manoj Pugalia, his daughter-in-law Simran and six other relatives, among them two children. Pugalia’s son, Saurabh, who survived along with three other family members, spoke to reporters at the scene.
Police had earlier said an explosion at the charging point of a car parked outside the house set off the fire. Saurabh disputed that account, saying the family charges the car daily but “that day, we had not connected it to the charging point.” He added that if no charger was attached, it was unclear how a short circuit or fire could originate at the charging point.
Saurabh also rejected police claims that electronic door locks delayed rescue teams after the power supply was cut, saying, “It is wrong to say my house has electronic locks. There is no such lock. The house remains open and anyone can verify this.” He alleged delays in rescue operations and said the timely arrival of fire tenders and ambulances “could have saved eight lives.”
A probe into the incident has been ordered by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.
