After months of anticipation, Dhurandhar: The Revenge opened nationwide on Thursday to a strong audience response, driven by record advance bookings. More than 15 lakh tickets were sold ahead of the release, including paid previews held on Wednesday, industry figures said. Trade analysts expect first-day gross collections to top Rs 100 crore, signalling a likely new box-office milestone for the franchise.
The sequel follows the original Dhurandhar, which earned about Rs 1,300 crore worldwide after its December 2025 release. Early viewers in Mumbai described the four-hour film as a “paisa vasool” experience, with many already planning repeat viewings. Ranveer Singh’s performance drew particular praise, with audiences saying he “absolutely nailed it.”
Supporting cast members Rakesh Bedi and Sara Arjun were singled out as scene-stealers, while director Aditya Dhar — best known for Uri: The Surgical Strike — received acclaim for detailed direction and layered storytelling. Several film personalities took to social media to applaud the film: Allu Arjun called it “patriotism with swag,” and Preity Zinta described the movie as “mindblowing” in direction, acting, music and editing. Vijay Deverakonda predicted the film would have a cultural impact on Indian cinema.
Produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Lokesh Dhar, Dhurandhar: The Revenge follows Ranveer Singh’s character Jaskirat Singh Rangi as he assumes the covert identity Hamza Ali Mazari and infiltrates Pakistan’s underworld while unraveling his past. The ensemble cast also includes R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal and Sanjay Dutt. The film has been released in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.
The film’s action, performances and narrative have been widely praised, but one sequence referencing India’s 2016 demonetisation has sparked debate online. The scene, which depicts the announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was criticised by some viewers for appearing to justify the policy as a strategic move against counterfeit currency.
Despite that controversy, early box-office indicators and strong audience word-of-mouth position Dhurandhar: The Revenge as both a commercial contender and a likely critical success. (PTI)
