বিধায়ক চক্ৰধৰ গগৈক তীব্ৰ সমালোচনা: ৰাজনীতিত উত্তেজনাৰ ঢৌ
Lurinjyoti Gogoi, president of the Asom Jatiya Parishad and the opposition alliance candidate, made his first visit to the Khowang constituency on Wednesday after receiving the party ticket, launching a blistering attack on incumbent MLA Chakradhar Gogoi. Speaking to a large crowd, Lurinjyoti accused the sitting MLA of lacking the courage to raise voters’ problems in the state assembly and even urged the chief minister to send the MLA a nameplate declaring he was a “nimati koina” and powerless to speak on public issues. He also alleged that the MLA only speaks up when matters involve contracts and commissions tied to his brother and sister-in-law.
Chakradhar Gogoi struck back, dismissing Lurinjyoti’s remarks as the work of someone with no constructive development agenda. He accused his opponent of engaging in low‑standard politics and called the campaign of personal attacks and misinformation “shameful,” noting that even after his own house was damaged at one point, the opposition continued to level allegations. Chakradhar warned that Lurinjyoti’s rhetoric risks stirring divisions between locals and outsiders-paralleling the religious fault lines some accuse the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of exploiting-and suggested the MLA’s critics are eyeing community fishponds that sustain local livelihoods.
Lurinjyoti further claimed that Chakradhar cannot present a credible “report card” to the people, arguing the MLA has failed on core issues such as roads, jetties, health services, the local science college, and flood‑erosion control. He said the lack of answers to these problems has pushed the incumbent into personal attacks and charged that development in Khowang has been limited to the MLA’s family and close associates. He urged voters to unite against what he described as BJP’s misrule, corruption and syndicate politics.
Thousands of party workers and supporters greeted Lurinjyoti on arrival from the airport. A lively procession moved from Khowang Chariali to Jaymati Theatre, as enthusiastic crowds accompanied him. Several former BJP workers used the event to formally join the Asom Jatiya Parishad.
Presenting himself as a public servant seeking the electorate’s blessing and guardianship, Lurinjyoti said the forthcoming contest would not be a personal battle but a fight against corruption and syndicate politics attributed to the BJP. The visit underscores rising political tensions in Khowang as the constituency prepares for the upcoming election.
