Amit Shah in Assam for High-Stakes Pre-Poll Meet with BJP Top Brass
Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Guwahati on Saturday evening ahead of the upcoming Assam assembly elections, arriving just hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded a two-day visit to the state and flew to West Bengal. Shah’s visit is aimed at consolidating party strategy as the BJP seeks a third consecutive term in Assam.
Shah was received at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and senior officials. He is scheduled to stay overnight at the Kainadhara State Guest House, where he will hold informal meetings with the BJP’s top brass to review poll preparations and campaign plans.
On Sunday morning Shah will inaugurate the Pragjyotishpur Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) in Guwahati, the city’s second medical college after Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. The new institute has been established by upgrading the Kalapahar TB Hospital, officials said.
Following the inauguration, Shah will address a youth convention of the party’s youth wing, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM). The event, branded “Yuva Shakti Samaroh,” is expected to draw more than 100,000 participants. Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia wrote on X: “Preparations were reviewed for the ‘Yuva Shakti Samaroh’ to be addressed tomorrow by Hon’ble Union Home Minister @AmitShah Ji, with 1 lakh+ youths set to participate. A major step towards a Viksit and Aatmanirbhar Assam.”
An official said Shah will depart the state after the youth convention. The assembly elections for 126 constituencies are expected in April, the first polls in the state following the 2023 delimitation exercise.
