Soren’s Biswanath Visit Sparks JMM’s Bold Entry Into State Politics
Biswanath, March 10 — Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren attended a meeting organised by the newly formed Jai Bharat Party (JBP) in Mijika, Biswanath district, on Tuesday, an appearance that JBP leaders said signals a possible entry of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) into the Assam Assembly race. The event gathered local leaders and party workers as discussions over political collaborations in the state intensified.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines, Soren said the meeting involved local leaders and party workers and that “many things are under discussion.” He added that “in politics, time moves in its own way and decisions are taken accordingly,” without committing to any electoral plan for the JMM in Assam.
JBP Central President Teharu Gour, however, publicly announced an understanding between the newly formed regional outfit and the JMM to contest the upcoming Assam polls. Gour said the alliance would field candidates in 40 of Assam’s 126 assembly constituencies and expressed strong confidence in the partnership’s prospects.
“If Soren’s JMM supports us, I am confident we will be able to win all 40 seats,” Gour said, asserting that a strong showing by the JBP–JMM combination could be decisive for government formation in the state. “Without Jai Bharat Party and JMM, no government will be formed in Assam,” he added.
Gour also criticised the state government’s handling of floods, calling it one of the most pressing issues for Assam, and alleged that smaller communities have been overlooked. “People are looking for change and transformation,” he said, while clarifying that beyond the understanding with the JMM, no decisions have been taken on alliances with other parties.
If the JBP–JMM understanding translates into a formal electoral pact, it would mark a notable development in Assam’s political landscape and could reshape electoral arithmetic in several constituencies. For now, organisers describe the arrangement as an emerging alignment rather than a finalised coalition.
