Girijananda Chowdhury University will host its annual varsity week, EUPHUISM ’26, at the Azara campus in Guwahati from March 11 to 14, bringing together students from across the region for a four-day festival of culture, music, technology and sports under the theme “Roots and Resilience.” The programme combines live concerts, inter-university competitions, technical challenges and school events, with a closing performance by Russian DJ Holy C slated for the grand finale.
The festival’s music lineup includes internationally recognised Assamese singer-songwriter Joi Barua, folk-fusion outfit The Cultivators and Meghalaya-based indie-punk group Street Stories. Organisers have also scheduled a special tribute segment to honour Assamese music icon Zubeen Garg, recognising his contribution to the region’s musical landscape and his influence on younger artists.
Joi Barua is billed as a major draw, noted by the university for his collaborations with orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios, as well as for awards at the Cannes World Film Festival for his musical work. The programme aims to balance headline performances with emerging regional acts and student showcases.
EUPHUISM ’26 will feature a wide range of competitions and events. Arts and cultural contests include the “Loud & Live” battle of bands, “Rhythm of Roots” group folk dance competition and “Theatrica”, a platform for socially themed drama. Technical events include the “Prajukti” hackathon, the “Acceleron” robo race and “Circuitronics” circuit-making contest, while “Gameverse” will host e-sports tournaments. A March Past for school participants is also planned.
The university has announced a prize pool of over Rs 1.15 lakh for competitions open to universities and schools. Officials say the festival reflects efforts to blend academic learning with cultural engagement, encouraging students to pursue professional ambitions while remaining connected to their cultural roots.
