GNRC Hospitals Celebrates International Women’s Day in Guwahati
GNRC Hospitals marked International Women’s Day on Sunday, March 8, 2026, with a programme at its Dispur auditorium in Guwahati that honoured women achievers and recognised outstanding women employees of the hospital group. The event, organised in association with the Asian Institute of Nursing Education (AINE), brought together healthcare professionals, guests and staff to celebrate women’s contributions across fields.
The ceremony highlighted felicitation of three prominent Assamese personalities: Padma Shri awardee and Karbi folk singer Pokhila Lekthepi, noted singer Manisha Hazarika, and international swimmer Fariha Zaman. A welcome address was delivered by Ranju Rani Das, Principal of AINE, and the programme concluded with a keynote speech by Jayasree Borah, Non‑Executive Director of GNRC Hospitals.
Three GNRC women employees were honoured for their service. Pulmonologist Dr Farjana Begum received the Best Patient Outcome Award; neurologist Dr Rupjyoti Das was presented with the Best Academic Engagement Award; and Malaya Das received the Best Swasthyamitra Award for Maximum Lives Touched, recognising community outreach and impact.
The celebration included cultural performances to mark the occasion, featuring a Sattriya dance and presentations by the Hillphonic group, AINE students and the Swasthyamitra team, underscoring the event’s blend of recognition and cultural tribute.
Speaking at the event, Jayasree Borah said, “The day celebrates courage, compassion and contributions of women across different fields.” She also announced two new annual honours-the Late Anupama Das Memorial Award and the Kanaklata Borah Memorial Award-to recognise women achievers from various walks of life, to be instituted starting next year.
In a move aimed at improving access to women’s healthcare, GNRC Hospitals announced limited‑period special packages: a Women’s Health Package at Rs 7,000, a Mental Health Package at Rs 400, and a PCOS package at Rs 2,000. GNRC said the initiative reflects its continued commitment to promoting accessible, holistic healthcare for women across the Northeast.
