Kohima: Achumbemo Kikon, MLA and Secretary General of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), on Tuesday raised alarm over racial discrimination faced by people from India’s Northeast who are living in mainland India. Speaking during the ongoing 8th session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Kikon described the issue as a “serious” concern.
Kikon warned that discrimination against Northeasterners damages their sense of safety and belonging and undermines the dignity and rights of those communities, the legislator said during his remarks in the Assembly. He urged attention to the problem as it affects citizens far beyond the region and called for measures to address prejudice and protect those targeted.
The comments were made in Kohima during the Assembly’s current session and were reported by EastMojo.
