Huma Qureshi Reveals Surprising Book Habits Unrelated to Acting
Mumbai, March 3 (IANS) — Actress Huma Qureshi, who is awaiting the release of her upcoming film Toxic, told attendees at the Women of Impact event in Mumbai that she reads widely on subjects unrelated to acting and reflected on the early struggles that tested her resolve. A photograph from the event shows her arriving at Mumbai airport on February 21, 2026.
Qureshi described the uncertain early years of her career, saying there were many low points and “lots of rejections.” She recounted occasions when she learned she had been dropped from films through newspaper reports, noting the disappointment of not even receiving a courtesy call from production teams.
The actress said that performing had long been her ambition and that acting brings together her varied interests. “Acting is the best profession in the world,” she said, adding that her natural curiosity about people and life drives her to read books on a wide range of topics, many of which have nothing to do with her work. For Qureshi, the craft lets her inhabit many lives within a single lifetime.
Major Swathi Kumar, who joined the conversation on stage, urged young women to consider military careers and highlighted the armed forces’ gender-neutral approach to training and roles. “In the military there is no thing as you are a man or a woman. It is gender neutral,” she said, explaining that recruits train alongside one another and are assigned tasks based on role and capability rather than gender.
Organizers presented the event as a platform for women from different fields to share experiences and inspire the next generation. Qureshi’s remarks underlined resilience in a competitive industry, while Major Swathi’s comments stressed equal opportunity in service careers.
