Gaurav Gogoi’s Dibrugarh Yatra: Congress Pledges ‘New Greater Assam’
On March 1, 2026, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) took its second phase of the “Samay Paribartanor” yatra to Dibrugarh, drawing large crowds for padayatras and bike rallies across the Naharkatia, Duliajan and Tingkhong constituencies. APCC president Gaurav Gogoi led the procession, saying the campaign is intended to reconnect the party with voters and push a development agenda ahead of upcoming contests.
Gogoi began the day with prayers and blessings at Raidongia Namghar in Naharkatia, and the Congress contingent received a warm reception at Nigam Tiniali. Addressing the gathering, he emphasized unity and pledged the party’s commitment to building a “New Greater Assam” by bringing together people across all communities, irrespective of caste, creed or religion.
Framing the yatra as more than electoral politics, Gogoi said the tour is a direct outreach to villagers and tea garden communities to address basic needs. He said, “We want to create a better environment for education and healthcare in every village,” and outlined plans to promote small-scale enterprises to help women become self-reliant. He also promised expanded welfare schemes and said eligible women would receive benefits directly into their bank accounts without the need to attend party meetings.
Throughout the day Gogoi engaged with diverse religious and occupational groups-lighting candles at Ghinai Baptist Church in Dibrugarh, praying at a Tai Phake shrine in Naharkatia and at a Namghar in Tipling. In Duliajan he met Oil India Limited workers, visited traders at Tipling Tiniali and spoke with farmers at Kacharipathar. Supporters repeatedly chanted, “Alikati Jali Dim, Borpeera Pari Dim, Eibar Congress Sarkar Ani Dim.”
Gogoi’s visible hands-on management of the yatra and disciplined proceedings drew praise from onlookers. He was accompanied by senior party leaders including Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia, MP Pradyut Bordoloi, former MP Paban Singh Ghatowar, former Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora and members of the Dibrugarh District Congress Committee.
APCC sources confirmed the yatra will continue on Monday, March 2, 2026, in Tinsukia district with visits planned to Makum, Doomdooma and Margherita, again led by Gogoi and senior party brass. The campaign’s mix of public engagement and development promises aims to sharpen the party’s presence across eastern Assam.
