Pratidhwani’s Cochlear Implant Programme, established in 2018 to address a regional gap in hearing care, now provides end-to-end support for cochlear implant patients across the Northeast and counts more than 100 recipients in its care. The centre combines surgical partnerships, empanelment under government and non-government funding schemes, and ongoing audiological and rehabilitation services to ensure patients receive both the operation and the long-term therapy needed for successful outcomes.
The programme’s model focuses on coordinated care: surgeons carry out implant procedures through formal collaborations, while the centre helps families access funding and arranges follow-up therapy. Long-term audiological support and rehabilitation are emphasised to promote speech, listening skills and reintegration into community and educational settings.
Pragnya Bharadwaj, Cochlear Implant Audiologist and CEO at Pratidhwani, highlighted the necessity of a multidisciplinary approach. She said effective cochlear implant care requires close teamwork among surgeons, audiologists, rehabilitation professionals and educators, alongside sustained community awareness to identify candidates early and support their development.
By combining clinical partnerships with financial empanelment and continuous rehabilitation, the centre aims to reduce barriers that often prevent children and adults from benefiting fully from cochlear implants. The integrated model makes it easier for families to navigate surgery, funding and the lengthy rehabilitation process that follows.
The programme concluded with Dr Biswajit Gogoi, Senior Cochlear Implant Surgeon, thanking participants and acknowledging the perseverance of families who support recipients through demanding rehabilitation journeys. Their commitment, the centre says, remains central to turning surgical success into lasting communicative gains.
