Historic First Meeting: Union Cabinet Gathers at Empowering New PMO Premises, Seva Teerth
In a significant development, the Union Cabinet convened for its inaugural meeting at Seva Teerth, the newly established Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) complex, on February 24, 2026. Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the meeting set a clear imperative that every decision made in this new facility should reflect a commitment to serve the nation’s 1.4 billion citizens while contributing to overarching nation-building goals.
Prime Minister Modi emphasized that the Cabinet should root its governance in the constitutional values that embody dignity, equality, and justice for all citizens. The ethos guiding the work culture at Seva Teerth is one of accountability to the aspirations of the people. This meeting and the new PMO complex symbolize a transformative vision for New India under the ‘Seva Sankalp’ resolution.
In his remarks, Modi noted that this new beginning serves as a homage to the historical efforts that have brought India to this juncture. “For many decades, the Prime Minister’s Office has operated from South Block, a place where legacy meets future vision. We aspire for an India characterized by indigenous thought, modern form, and boundless potential. Seva Teerth is the real embodiment of this vision, enhancing India’s reputation as the Mother of Democracy,” he stated.
During this first Cabinet meeting, several pivotal resolutions were adopted. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the establishment of a civil enclave at Srinagar Airport with an investment of ₹1,677 crore. Additional projects from the Ministry of Railways were green-lit, amounting to approximately ₹9,072 crore.
In a bid to support agricultural sustainability, the Union Cabinet raised the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of raw jute by ₹275, bringing it to ₹5,925 per quintal for the 2026-27 marketing season. Furthermore, the Cabinet green-lit a proposal to elevate the equity investment threshold for Powergrid, a public sector enterprise. This increase, from ₹5,000 crore to ₹7,500 crore per subsidiary, will enable the company to compete for capital-intensive transmission projects.
Another significant decision taken on that day includes the approval of a 3.33-km extension of the existing North-South corridor within the Gujarat Metro, stretching from GIFT City to Shahpur.
Seva Teerth stands as more than just a symbol of governance; it represents a renewed commitment to a future defined by service, equality, and progress for all Indians. As the Cabinet’s foundational meeting in this new complex unfolds, it sets a tone not only for immediate policy decisions but also for the cultural shift in the approach to governance under the Modi administration. With an emphasis on serving the populace and upholding the constitutional ethos, the new PMO complex aims to be a catalyst for driving meaningful change across the nation.
This landmark meeting underlines a shifting paradigm in Indian governance, where the priorities resonate closely with the voices and needs of the citizenry. Seva Teerth, as a physical and ideological space, aims to embody this evolution, promising a future where the ideals of service and nation-building unify the Indian populace.
