Tiger Attacks Two in Golaghat’s Upper Langtha Village — Urgent Alert
A tiger attacked two villagers in Upper Langtha under Barpathar in Assam’s Golaghat district on February 23, leaving both with serious injuries, officials and locals said. The injured men have been identified as Paresh Buragohain and Debananda Buragohain, who sustained wounds to the face, hands, neck, back and waist.
According to reports, the pair were plucking berries in a field orchard when the tiger suddenly struck. Neighbours and other villagers rushed to the scene and transported the injured men to Barpathar hospital for treatment.
Barpathar Police arrived at the spot shortly after the attack, but residents say the Forest Department has not yet taken adequate measures to track or capture the animal. Locals expressed alarm over the absence of a visible containment effort and voiced fears of further tiger movement in the area.
The incident has heightened anxiety across Upper Langtha, underscoring the persistent human-wildlife conflict in parts of Golaghat. Villagers urged authorities to step up patrols, expedite capture operations and provide reassurance to the community while the injured receive medical care.
