Exciting New Darts Academy in Kohima Promises to Boost Local Talent
The Kohima Darts Academy (KDA), backed by the Indian Darts Council (IDC), was formally inaugurated at Naga Hospital Colony, Kohima on February 23, 2026, as organisers seek to expand the sport’s footprint in Nagaland. MLA Dr. Tseilhoutuo (Ato) Rhütso, the special guest for the opening, urged consistent practice to achieve excellence and expressed hope that the academy will produce national and international players in the near future.
Dr. Rhütso said the academy would do more than sharpen skills; it would foster friendship, unity, confidence and social interaction among youth. KDA’s stated aim is to promote darts and nurture young talent across the state by providing structured coaching and competitive opportunities.
The academy will enrol boys and girls aged eight and above. It is equipped with six free-standing dartboard setups and plans regular coaching sessions every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Coaches and volunteers are experienced players who will mentor members, while periodic performance assessments will track progress and shape improvement plans.
KDA intends to field players in local, state and national tournaments to give trainees competitive exposure and create a professional pathway for emerging darters in Kohima and Nagaland. Those interested in sponsoring or partnering with the academy can contact the organisers at 8837267954.
Proprietor Vikehelie Suohu thanked Akielie for introducing him to the sport, and acknowledged support from Nagaland Darts Association, Fun Tree Crew, Team One Nagaland, Dynamic School of Darts, Zumvu Printex, Dartskart and other well-wishers. Suohu also praised the Indian Darts Council under the leadership of Devesh Srivastava for their guidance. “Today is not just about opening a darts academy but about launching a dream,” he said. Addressing trainees, he added: “This is your home. Train hard, play fair, respect the game and never stop believing in your potential.”
The launch was attended by representatives from regional darts groups and supporters. The programme was chaired by Theja Kire, and Seyievituo Suohu, Assistant Pastor of Flames of Fire Baptist Church, offered an invocation. A dedicatory prayer for the academy was held on February 22 by Rev. Kehoulelie Zatsu, pastor of CRC Naga Hospital Colony.
