Remarkable Progress: CM Declares ‘One Year of Work Surpasses AAP’s Decade of Inaction!’
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented a comprehensive overview of her government’s accomplishments during a press conference at the Delhi Secretariat on Friday, marking her first year in office as a period focused on addressing “legacy issues.” Emphasizing tangible outcomes rather than mere announcements, Gupta asserted, “We have done more work on legacy issues in one year than the previous [AAP] government did in ten years.”
In a detailed ‘report card’ released during the event, Gupta highlighted initiatives aimed at improving sanitation, health care, education, infrastructure, pollution control, and governance reform. A notable development is the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which provides health coverage of up to ₹10 lakh per family.
Highlighting basic necessities, the Chief Minister stated that 13 kilometers of outdated transmission pipelines were replaced and 172 kilometers of new or upgraded water pipelines were installed over the past year. Additionally, sewer lines will soon be extended into unauthorized colonies to prevent untreated waste from contaminating the Yamuna River. Gupta described the river’s deteriorating condition as a consequence of years of neglect, revealing that 28 out of 37 sewage treatment plants (STPs) needing upgrades are being improved, with nine remaining under renovation. “We are enhancing sewage treatment capacity and looking beyond just mega plants,” she noted.
Looking forward, Gupta identified the redevelopment of slum clusters as a key focus for her second year in office, with ₹700 crore allocated for essential infrastructure projects. She also announced that Delhi now boasts the highest minimum wage in the country, set at ₹22,411 per month.
In terms of educational advancements, the government has cleared ₹44 crore in pending scholarships and initiated the development of an education city in Narela with a budget of ₹1,360 crore. The proposed sports university project in Ghevra has also kicked off, signifying a commitment to enhancing educational opportunities in the capital.
Gupta reiterated her administration’s commitment to social justice by announcing compensation for families affected by the 1984 riots and for government employees and healthcare workers who lost their lives during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As Gupta wraps up her first year, she underlines a commitment to deliver on critical issues that directly affect residents, aiming for a transformative impact on Delhi’s infrastructure and public health. The Chief Minister’s proactive approach and focus on practical solutions illustrate a clear roadmap for the future, fostering optimism for continued improvements in the capital city.
With a significant year behind her, Gupta’s government is poised to tackle both ongoing challenges and new initiatives as they move forward, further solidifying their position as a pivotal force in Delhi’s development.
