Former world champion Rudrankksh Patil delivered an impressive performance by winning the gold medal in the men’s 10m air rifle event at the Asian Championship held in New Delhi on February 6. Rudrankksh achieved a remarkable score of 251.9 in the final, successfully fending off fellow Olympian Arjun Babuta, who finished second with 250.7. This victory marked Rudrankksh’s first individual gold at the continental level, following his mixed team success in Jakarta in 2024. Together with Vishal Singh, who contributed significantly, the trio secured the team gold for India, amassing a total of 1884.7 points. They outperformed Kazakhstan and Japan, which scored 1879.4 and 1877.2 points, respectively. In the junior men’s 10m air rifle category, India swept the podium, with Himanshu clinching gold at 250.0, followed by Ansh Dabas and Suresh Pranav. The junior team also triumphed, accumulating 1887.8 points, well ahead of Kazakhstan at 1851.3.
In the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships taking place in Tianjin, China, Aadrash Ram Jothi Shankar secured a bronze medal in men’s high jump. He achieved his personal best of 2.19m after a valuable training camp at Bhubaneswar’s Indoor Stadium. Shankar successfully cleared 2.15m and then 2.19m in his third attempt but fell short in his quest to rise further, missing three attempts at 2.23m. Japan’s Seko Yuto took home the gold with the same height.
At the National Weightlifting Championships in Modinagar, Gyaneshwari Yadav claimed the senior gold medal in the 53kg category by lifting a total of 186kg. Meanwhile, Koyel Bor shattered five national records across both youth and junior levels, lifting a total of 185kg. Koyel set new records in the Youth section, breaking previous marks in snatch, clean and jerk, and overall total, while also securing two junior records. Veerjeet Kaur completed the podium with a total lift of 182kg.
In a significant upset at the L&T Mumbai Open WTA 125K Series, 17-year-old Lilli Tagger pulled off a remarkable comeback against second seed Darja Semenistaja in the singles quarterfinal. Tagger showcased her resilience by altering her strategy mid-match after dropping the first set, ultimately winning 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Other players, including Mananchaya Sawangkaew, Lanlana Tararudee, and Fangran Tian, advanced to the semifinals alongside Tagger. In doubles, Nicole Fossa Huergo and Mananchaya Sawangkaew secured their spot in the finals.
