Urgent Concerns: Recurring Water Stagnation at Edamalaipattipudur Subway Threatens Community Safety!
Residents and commuters in Edamalaipattipudur are growing increasingly concerned about persistent water seepage in the subway under the road over bridge (ROB), impacting daily travel experiences. Since its inauguration in 2014, the ROB, located near Crawford, has been plagued by water stagnation problems in its subways, particularly those at Anbu Nagar and Edamalaipattipudur.
Recent reports indicate that two-wheeler users are experiencing frequent splashes from the stagnant water accumulating on the road. Despite efforts by local authorities to pump out excess water during the monsoon, the Edamalaipatti subway remains damp even on sunny days. Civic activists are voicing their concerns, urging local administration to prioritize infrastructure maintenance to prevent these issues from worsening. “Stagnant water can lead to mosquito infestations and create significant health risks for residents,” noted a member of the Thanneer voluntary organization.
A senior official from the local Corporation acknowledged the challenges posed by the area’s natural water table and potential sewage mix. They confirmed that a pump was installed in the subway to automatically manage surplus water. “We encounter issues here due to the unique water table and sewage outflow. Although we pump out excess water regularly, recent stagnation could be due to a malfunction in the motor. We will address this issue promptly,” the official stated.
The ongoing water seepage issue is not isolated to this subway, as many subways in Tiruchi and Srirangam face similar challenges throughout the year. The accumulation of stagnant water not only creates inconveniences for commuters but also poses public health concerns that warrant immediate attention from city planners and infrastructure managers.
Authorities are under pressure to rectify the underlying infrastructural inadequacies while highlighting the importance of regular maintenance checks. As the rainy season approaches, the urgency to resolve these issues becomes paramount, steering discussions toward proactive measures to improve urban infrastructure resilience.
Residents hope that prompt action will mitigate health risks and restore the functionality of these vital transportation routes. With rising public discontent and growing demands for accountability, the local administration’s response in the coming days will be closely scrutinized by the community.
As the situation develops, it remains crucial for residents to stay informed and for local authorities to act decisively to restore confidence in public infrastructure. This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by urban areas in managing rainfall effectively while ensuring safe commuting options for all.
