Drone Flights Over Jammu-Kashmir Border: A Critical Update This Week
Suspicious drone activity from Pakistan has once again been observed along the international border in Jammu and Kashmir. This resurgence comes just hours after Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi issued a stern warning to Pakistan, raising tensions in the region.
This incident marks the third such occurrence within the past week, where drones have crossed from Pakistani territory into Indian land. Specifically, a suspicious drone was spotted entering near the village of Keso Mahansan in the Ramgarh sector of the Samba district, prompting heightened vigilance from the border security forces and the army. In response, the Indian Army initiated anti-drone operations.
Later that evening, around 7 PM, another drone-like object was seen flying over the skies of Degwar village in Poonch district. During its approximately ten minutes in the air, the Indian Army fired several rounds in an attempt to neutralize the threat. Currently, security forces are maintaining a high level of alert across the region and are closely monitoring the situation.
Military sources indicated that these drones are small in size and are likely being deployed by Pakistan to conduct surveillance on Indian Army movements.
Earlier, during an annual press briefing, General Upendra Dwivedi explicitly stated that India would not tolerate such operations conducted via drones. Pakistan had already been warned regarding this matter, and India expressed strong objections during a high-level military commanders’ meeting held on Tuesday. The army chief further emphasized that Pakistan ought to keep its drones under control. However, just hours after this warning, multiple Pakistani drones were spotted flying together in the Dungala Nabla area of the Rajouri sector, indicating a deliberate attempt to stir unrest from across the border.
In light of these repeated incursions, Indian security forces have intensified their operations along the border. Security experts suggest that the type and frequency of drone flights indicate an increase in covert activities from the Pakistani side. Although the situation along the western border is becoming increasingly complex, the army chief assured the public that the Indian Army is prepared to handle any challenges that may arise.
