Mamata Banerjee’s Shocking Claim Following ED Raid Exposes Major Controversy
New Delhi: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is staging protests from Delhi to Kolkata in response to recent raids conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at the home of the party’s IT cell chief in West Bengal on January 8. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has filed two FIRs against the ED and led a march in Kolkata, demanding accountability for what she describes as harassment.
During these protests, Banerjee made a bold assertion, claiming she possesses pen drives that contain evidence against Home Minister Amit Shah. She stated, “The money from the coal scam reaches senior BJP leaders in Delhi. I have proof of this. If needed, I can present it to the public.” She accused Suvendu Adhikari, a BJP leader, of facilitating these transactions, emphasizing, “I don’t usually react, but if someone provokes me, I don’t spare them.”
In a related development, the Calcutta High Court has postponed its hearing on the ED’s petition, which sought to register an FIR against Banerjee for allegedly interfering with the ED’s operations. The postponement was due to the large crowd and unrest in the court premises.
Banerjee raised three significant points during her address. Firstly, she criticized the Election Commission, noting that an officer within it previously served as secretary in Amit Shah’s department. While she expressed no personal grievances, she accused the BJP of forcibly seizing power in Haryana and Bihar and attempting to repeat that in Bengal. Secondly, she highlighted the harassment of local residents in the name of Special Intensive Revision (SIR), mentioning that even vulnerable individuals such as the elderly and pregnant women have faced mistreatment. She further criticized the BJP’s discourse around Rohingyas, questioning why SIR is not implemented in Assam if that is the case. Lastly, she claimed that during the ED raid, an attempt was made to steal her party’s data and strategies, insisting that she did nothing wrong when she arrived at the location.
On January 9, eight TMC MPs protested outside the Ministry of Home Affairs in Delhi. Prominent leaders Derek O’Brien, Mahua Moitra, and Kirti Azad were actively participating, chanting slogans. The protest escalated into a scuffle, leading to several MPs falling to the ground. The police intervened, detaining the MPs at 10 AM and releasing them around noon.
