Guwahati: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati held its annual AI Confluence on January 6, 2026, attracting around 400 students from its online B.Sc. (Hons) programme in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. Organized by the Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, this two-day event took place on the institute’s campus.
Students journeyed from various parts of the country to participate in the confluence, which provided a unique chance to experience campus life and engage personally with faculty and peers. The online programme serves a diverse student body, including early-career professionals, recent high school graduates, and individuals from varied academic and professional backgrounds.
The AI Confluence aimed to enhance online learning by fostering face-to-face interactions, collaborative efforts, and community building. Over the two days, attendees participated in lectures, discussions, presentations, and group activities that promoted networking and skill development.
During the event, Devendra Jalihal emphasized the increasing significance of data science and artificial intelligence across numerous sectors, highlighting the importance of creating opportunities for online learners to connect with the academic environment at IIT Guwahati.
In addition to academic sessions, students engaged in poster presentations, AI-based filmmaking challenges, inventathon competitions, and panel discussions focusing on business and entrepreneurship. The event also featured cultural programmes and performances led by students, further enriching the interactive atmosphere.
Guest lecturer Ratnajit Bhattacharya remarked on the pivotal role of data-driven decision-making in contemporary industries. IIT Guwahati noted that the AI Confluence exemplifies its commitment to blending flexibility in online education with meaningful engagement and robust academic standards for learners across India.
