Major Wildlife Trafficking Bust on Assam-Nagaland Border: One Arrested!
In a major development in the fight against illegal wildlife trafficking, forest authorities successfully recovered a significant cache of wildlife body parts in Halowating, a sensitive area along the Assam–Nagaland border. The operation, executed by officers from the Amguri and Halowating Range, resulted in the discovery of two leopard skins, alongside a substantial amount of tiger bones, teeth, and claws.
The operation was initiated based on credible intelligence and was coordinated by a team from the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) in Guwahati, working closely with local forest divisions. Authorities arrested an alleged poacher identified as Imchil Ib Ao in connection with the findings. Forest officials estimate that the market value of the seized wildlife contraband exceeds Rs 10 lakh.
Preliminary investigations suggest that wildlife trafficking has been a persistent issue in this border region for some time. Authorities are currently conducting further inquiries to track down and apprehend additional individuals involved in the illegal wildlife trade network.
