India Triumphs: Successful Test-Fire of Two Pralay Missiles Off Odisha Coast
India successfully test-fired two Pralay missiles in rapid succession off the coast of Odisha, marking a significant step toward their integration into the military. Conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the tests demonstrated the missile’s capabilities as a short-range surface-to-surface weapon. The Pralay missile has a payload capacity ranging from 500 to 1,000 kilograms and can carry multiple conventional warheads, with an operational range between 150 and 500 kilometers.
The DRDO noted that these flight tests were part of user evaluation trials, with both missiles adhering to their intended trajectories and successfully meeting all flight objectives, as confirmed by tracking sensors. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commended the efforts of the DRDO, the Indian Air Force, the Indian Army, and industry partners involved in this successful launch. He expressed that the successful salvo launch has established the missile’s reliability.
Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development and DRDO Chairman, also congratulated the teams responsible for the successful tests. He emphasized that this achievement signals the imminent readiness for the missile system’s induction into the operational forces. The Pralay missile was developed by Research Centre Imarat, collaborating with various DRDO laboratories, including Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Advanced Systems Laboratory, Armament Research and Development Establishment, High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, and Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory.
