Assam Students Rally Against Minorities’ Atrocities in Bangladesh
The All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) condemned what it termed a barbaric incident of violence against minority Hindus in Bangladesh on December 21. AAMSU described the act as inhuman and unacceptable, urging the Government of India to take immediate and strong action. Rezaul Karim Sarkar, the president of AAMSU, called for firm diplomatic measures against the Bangladesh government and suggested that stronger responses should be considered if necessary.
This condemnation came during a protest organized by AAMSU in Balapara, located in the Jogighopa area of Bongaigaon district. Protesters raised slogans denouncing the alleged persecution of minorities in Bangladesh while criticizing the country’s interim leadership. They expressed concerns over potential negative impacts on Northeast India.
Demonstrators chanted phrases like “Oppression of minorities in Bangladesh will not be tolerated” and “Muhammad Yunus go back,” contributing to a tense atmosphere. Sarkar warned against what he called an “evil eye” from Bangladesh on the northeastern region of India.
He reiterated AAMSU’s demand for India to adopt a strong stance against Bangladesh. Meanwhile, district units of AAMSU throughout Assam announced plans to burn effigies of Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government, at 2 PM as part of coordinated statewide protests.
