Unlock Your Future: Join the SBI-RBI Camp on Unclaimed Deposits
In a significant initiative aimed at enhancing financial literacy, the State Bank of India (SBI), in conjunction with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), conducted a District-Level Awareness and Assistance Camp on the Depositor Education and Awareness Fund in Manipur’s Senapati district on December 5, 2025. This event took place at the Makhan Centre Community Hall and was organized to educate the public about unclaimed deposits in banks and insurance companies, while also promoting financial inclusion.
Over 200 participants, including members from self-help groups in five local villages-Makhan Khullen, Makhan Khuman, Makhan Centre, Makhan Lovadziingho, and New Makhan-attended the camp. Officials from various public sector banks, government agencies, and the Centre for Financial Literacy were also present, demonstrating a strong collaborative effort towards financial education.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Nenia Florence, Lead District Manager, who emphasized the benefits of settling unclaimed deposits swiftly. Moderated by Pikuo Chalai, Branch Manager of SBI Maram, the event featured key presentations, including one from RBI Deputy General Manager Chamailo M. Samuel. He detailed ongoing RBI initiatives for financial inclusion and discussed the status of unclaimed deposits in the state, emphasizing the utility of the Udgam Portal, which allows users to search for unclaimed deposits across multiple banks. Samuel highlighted the need for a collective effort from all stakeholders to enhance financial literacy.
Lokho Peter, Regional Manager for SBI Imphal East, explained the procedure for claiming unclaimed deposits and stressed the importance of maintaining strong credit relationships and timely loan repayments. He also discussed various vendor schemes and RSETI training sessions available for unemployed youth. Kapeo Joseph from LIC Imphal underscored the issue of unclaimed insurance funds and the advantages of social security schemes like PMJJBY and PMSBY.
H. Veisho, the District Mission Manager of MSRLM, spoke on the benefits of self-help groups in fostering savings habits, while DIC General Manager Rita Misao highlighted the significance of Udyam registration and government initiatives aimed at supporting women entrepreneurs through subsidized loans. Additionally, L.S. Lavei James, the District Agriculture Officer, outlined several agricultural schemes available for farmer entrepreneurs.
The camp facilitated on-the-spot submissions for claims related to unclaimed deposits, re-KYC processes for bank accounts, enrollment in social security schemes, and free Udyam online registrations. As part of the outreach, several utility items were donated by the RBI to the respective authorities of the five participating villages. This initiative reflects a noteworthy commitment to advancing financial literacy and inclusion within the community.
