Tezpur University Students Take Stand: 79 Days of Unyielding Protest
The agitation at Tezpur University has reached a critical juncture as a Central Ministry delegation failed to resolve students’ longstanding demands. The protests have now entered their 79th consecutive day, with thousands of students participating in mass sit-ins across campus, urging for immediate and effective intervention.
Despite ongoing peaceful demonstrations, multiple petitions, and previous fact-finding visits, the delegation has yet to provide any formal assurances or a plan to address the central issues driving the protests. This continued lack of response has significantly diminished students’ and faculty members’ trust in both institutional frameworks and governmental oversight.
Protesters claim that the administration’s inaction signifies a deeper systemic disregard for accountability within higher education. They contend that their patience has been repeatedly tested, compelling the academic community to resort to stronger resistance methods.
In a notable escalation, student leaders declared an indefinite shutdown of all academic and administrative activities on campus. They emphasized that this difficult decision was necessitated by the authorities’ failure to engage meaningfully with their concerns.
Student representatives insist that the protests will persist with increased intensity until a clear, written, and satisfactory resolution is presented by the responsible authorities. They highlighted that the movement is rooted in a collective dedication to upholding transparency, fairness, and rights within the university framework.
In a separate development, there is a growing enthusiasm for table tennis among youth and veterans in Arunachal Pradesh. Athletes from districts such as Lohit, East Siang, S.S.A Miao, Sangay Lhaden Academy, Leparada, Kurung Kumey, Anjaw, and Changlang are actively participating in the sport, showcasing an increasing community interest.
