Nagaland’s Global Roundtable: Strengthening Diplomatic and Economic Ties
Nagaland held an inaugural Roundtable and Networking Dinner with country partners on November 30, 2025, at Hotel Vivor in Kohima, representing a key step towards enhancing diplomatic and economic collaborations ahead of the Hornbill Festival. Organized by the Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), the event gathered international representatives, government officials, and industry stakeholders for meaningful policy discussions. This initiative underscores Nagaland’s dedication to broadening its global connections, as diplomats from various countries explored potential partnerships with the state.
The roundtable coincided with the Chief Minister’s announcement naming Austria, France, Ireland, Malta, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom as official country partners for the upcoming Hornbill Festival. Additionally, Arunachal Pradesh was designated as the State Partner, emphasizing efforts to strengthen regional collaboration within Northeast India. This inclusion aims to foster a unified vision for development and growth in the region, facilitating meaningful engagement between Nagaland and overseas stakeholders.
Attending the gathering were senior diplomats, including the ambassadors from France, Ireland, Switzerland, and the High Commissioner of Malta. Their presence highlighted a growing interest from foreign missions in building economic, cultural, and strategic ties with Nagaland. The roundtable marked a pivotal moment in the state’s outreach efforts and signaled Nagaland’s rising status as a center for global engagement in Northeast India.
Designed as a policy platform, the roundtable focused on identifying tangible opportunities for collaboration and establishing bilateral relations with participating nations. Stakeholders from sectors such as tourism, trade, investment, technology, and creative industries engaged in dialogues with government agencies and local businesses. These discussions aimed to formulate practical partnership models, joint ventures, and investment pathways set to advance during and after the Hornbill Festival through additional roundtables and business-to-business sessions.
This engagement reaffirmed Nagaland’s readiness to pursue viable investment opportunities, establishing the state as an emerging player in regional diplomacy and economic cooperation. The Hornbill Festival, traditionally a significant cultural event, is being utilized to stimulate cultural exchanges and convert them into actual economic and investment prospects. By connecting national and international partners with local entrepreneurs and institutions, the event seeks to harmonize cultural heritage with innovation and commercial growth.
During the roundtable, the importance of cross-sector collaboration was highlighted. Official remarks indicated, “During the programme, Country Partners emphasized the importance and possibilities of collaborating and partnering with Nagaland in the areas of Education, Sports, Cultural, Health, Digital, Food Processing Industries, Infrastructure, Agriculture, etc.” This session laid the groundwork for ongoing high-level engagement and reinforced Nagaland’s vision of forging long-term relationships with both international partners and neighboring states.
