Modi’s Inspiring Roadshow in Udupi: Heartfelt Cheers as PM Honored Ahead of Sacred Gita Recital at Sri Krishna Mutt
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Udupi on November 28, 2025, to hold a roadshow en route to the Sri Krishna Mutt for the highly anticipated Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana programme. This event marks Modi’s inaugural visit to the city, where he was greeted by enthusiastic crowds lining the streets, waving tricolors and showering his convoy with flower petals.
The roadshow commenced at Bannanje Narayana Guru Circle, stretching to Kalsanka. Standing on the running board of his vehicle, Modi reciprocated the warm welcome by tossing flowers back to the supporters gathered on either side of the road. The festive atmosphere was amplified by vibrant cultural performances that highlighted the rich traditions of coastal Karnataka, with saffron festoons and BJP flags accentuating the route.
At the Sri Krishna Mutt, PM Modi is set to participate in the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana, a devotional gathering featuring approximately 100,000 participants from diverse backgrounds, including students, monks, and scholars, all uniting to recite the Bhagavad Gita. This momentous event, organized by Sri Krishna Mutt and Paryaya Putthige Mutt, seeks to foster community through spirituality.
Arriving earlier in the day at Mangaluru International Airport, Modi traveled to Udupi via helicopter. His itinerary includes the inauguration of the Suvarna Tirtha Mantapa, located in front of the Krishna sanctum, and the dedication of the Kanaka Kavacha, a golden cover for the sacred Kanakana Kindi-a revered window believed to have granted saint Kanakadasa a divine view of Bhagwan Krishna.
The Prime Minister’s itinerary further includes a visit to Goa later in the day for the ‘Sardha Panchashatamanotsava,’ celebrating 550 years of the Sri Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Mutt.
Historically, the Sri Krishna Mutt was established over 800 years ago by Sri Madhwacharya, a pivotal figure in the Dvaita philosophy of Vedanta. Before this visit, Modi expressed his honor via social media, stating, “I am honoured to be visiting Sri Krishna Matha in Udupi to participate in the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana programme… This Matha has a very unique significance.”
Following prayers at the temple, Modi joined lakhs of attendees for the Gita recitation. He was honored during the event by the Paryaya Putthige Mutt seer, Sri Sri Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji, who bestowed upon him the title of “Bharata Bhagya Vidhaata.” Modi also received a “raksha kavacha” bracelet and a decorative petha adorned with peacock feathers, symbols associated with Lord Krishna. The Prime Minister participated in the recitation of verses from the 15th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita, engaging with thousands of devotees.
Accompanying Modi on stage were notable figures, including Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot and several senior BJP leaders, including Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and party state unit president B.Y. Vijayendra.
This visit underscores Modi’s commitment to cultural and spiritual engagement within India, highlighting the importance of unity and tradition in contemporary society. As the day unfolds, the atmosphere in Udupi remains charged with enthusiasm and reverence, reflecting the enduring legacy of the Bhagavad Gita in Indian culture.
The event not only serves as a spiritual gathering but also emphasizes the importance of community and cultural heritage in today’s fast-paced world.
