Excitement Soars as Bhutan–India Friendship Football Tournament 2025 Begins!
The Bhutan–India Friendship Football Tournament 2025 commenced with great enthusiasm at the Samdrup Jongkhar Public Ground in eastern Bhutan, serving as a significant milestone in promoting cross-border unity through sports. Hosted by the Bhutan–India Friendship Association (BIFA), the event aims to strengthen cultural ties and understanding between the communities of both nations.
The opening match took place on Saturday evening, inaugurated by the District Commissioner of Samdrup Jongkhar. The ceremony was attended by several notable dignitaries, including Tamulpur Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Chakravarty, Senior Superintendent of Police Tabu Ram Pegu, and BIFA Vice President Gupshwanam Datsu, along with other local officials.
A large crowd gathered to enjoy the thrilling first match featuring India’s Barpeta Radiance Club against Bhutan’s Changzong FC. In a closely fought contest, Barpeta Radiance FC emerged victorious with a narrow 1–0 win after halftime, progressing to the next round. Their robust defense and effective attacking strategies captivated the audience.
Organizers shared their optimism that this tournament would not only enhance friendship and cultural connections but also promote the spirit of sportsmanship and entertainment among communities along the Bhutan–India border.
