From Farmer’s Son to Billionaire: Lalit Keshre’s 70% Stock Surge!
New Delhi: Lalit Keshre, co-founder and CEO of Groww, has recently joined India’s billionaires list following the company’s IPO. Launched on November 12, Groww’s stock soared over 70% from its initial price in just four trading days, closing at ₹174 on November 17, 2025. As a result of this surge, Keshre’s 9.06% stake in the company is now valued at ₹9,448 crore, equivalent to around $1.13 billion. Keshre’s rise from a small village in Madhya Pradesh to a billionaire is now a source of inspiration in the startup ecosystem.
Keshre was born into a farming family in Lepa village, located in Khargone district, Madhya Pradesh. Raised by his grandparents, he faced a lack of resources but managed to attend the only English-medium school in Khargone. He later excelled in the JEE examination and secured admission to IIT Bombay, where he earned both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in technology.
His professional journey began at Flipkart, where he served as a product manager. In 2016, Keshre left Flipkart to co-found Groww alongside fellow Flipkart alumni Harsh Jain, Ishan Bansal, and Neeraj Singh. Their app has successfully connected millions of users to the stock market, illustrating that success can stem from humble beginnings.
Following its IPO listing on the BSE and NSE on November 12, Groww’s shares increased from an issue price of ₹100 to ₹174, marking one of the best debuts of recent IPOs. With this rise, the company’s overall market valuation, including stakes held by its founders, has surpassed ₹26,000 crore. This performance underscores strong investor confidence in the fintech sector, as Groww plans to allocate IPO proceeds to technology investments and expansion initiatives.
The successful listing has notably enriched the company’s founders overnight. Keshre holds 559.1 million shares, valued at ₹9,448 crore at ₹170 per share. Co-founder Harsh Jain’s holdings of 411.6 million shares (6.67%) are now worth ₹6,586 crore. Ishan Bansal’s 277.8 million shares (4.5%) are valued at ₹4,444 crore, while Neeraj Singh’s 383.2 million shares (6.21%) are worth ₹6,132 crore. These figures reflect the significant wealth growth realized by Groww’s founders. Initially valued at $3 billion in private funding, the company’s public market debut has further increased its valuation.
