Empowering Futures: Puducherry Govt. Delivers Life-Changing Financial Assistance to Medical and Nursing Students
Chief Minister N. Rangasamy has officially launched the disbursement of the fourth instalment of the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Financial Assistance Scheme (PKFAS) for medical and nursing students in Puducherry. This initiative aims to support students who were admitted through the counselling process of the Centralised Admission Committee for the academic year 2021-2022. The event took place on Monday at the Legislative Assembly, where the Chief Minister announced that a total of ₹3.14 crores has been allocated for this round of tuition fee assistance.
Approximately 134 medical students and 165 nursing students will benefit from this financial aid, underscoring the government’s commitment to supporting healthcare education in the Union Territory. In addition to the current disbursement, the Puducherry government has earmarked ₹27 crores to assist students enrolling through Centac in subsequent academic years-2022-23, 2023-24, and 2024-25. Furthermore, the budget’s Revised Estimate includes ₹34 crores dedicated to providing financial assistance for students pursuing Arts and Science degrees through Centac. The Chief Minister confirmed that the scheme will be expanded to encompass these students, thereby broadening access to educational support.
Additionally, Rangasamy announced that the distribution of free laptops will soon commence for around 15,000 Class 11 and 12 students, with the procurement process already completed. This initiative aims to enhance digital education and equip students with necessary technological tools.
When questioned about the emergence of new political parties criticizing the AINRC-BJP government in Puducherry, Rangasamy emphasized that while everyone is entitled to form political parties, the ultimate decision lies with the electorate. “People will decide who is truly serving their interests. I will address the criticisms when the time is right,” he stated. He also dismissed any suggestions of discord between his party, the AINRC, and its alliance partner, the BJP.
The government’s efforts in expanding educational financial aid and ensuring technological support reveal a proactive approach to addressing the needs of students in Puducherry. As the initiative progresses, it remains to be seen how these policies will impact the educational landscape in the region.
In conclusion, the Puducherry government continues to reaffirm its commitment to fostering academic growth and providing essential resources for its student population. The PKFAS not only supports medical and nursing students but is also set to expand its reach into Arts and Science disciplines, reflecting a holistic approach to educational funding in the UT.
