US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor expressed his eagerness to begin his new role in New Delhi, thanking President Donald Trump for the opportunity to serve as the United States envoy to India. Gor, 38, was sworn into office by US Vice President J.D. Vance during a ceremony at the Oval Office on Monday.
In a social media post, Gor stated, “I’m very much looking forward to being the new US Ambassador to India. Thank you @POTUS @realDonaldTrump! I’m deeply grateful for this opportunity and committed to honoring the faith you’ve shown in me.”
India’s Ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, congratulated Gor on his appointment, sharing his well-wishes for a successful tenure in New Delhi. President Trump officiated at Gor’s oath-taking event, which was attended by various high-ranking officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Senator Lindsey Graham.
The US Senate confirmed Gor’s nomination as Ambassador to India in October, following his selection by President Trump in August. At the time, Gor was serving as the Director of Presidential Personnel. Trump emphasized the importance of the US-India relationship, noting that India is “home to one of the world’s oldest civilizations” and has a population exceeding 1.5 billion.
During his confirmation hearing, Gor underscored India’s strategic importance, stating that enhancing US-India trade relationships would not only improve American competitiveness but also diminish China’s economic influence over other nations. Gor expressed his commitment to advancing US interests in this vital partnership and assured that he would work diligently in his new role.
