Pasighat Man Sentenced to 20 Years for POCSO Violations: A Justice Delayed
The Special Judge (POCSO) Court in Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh, has sentenced Bomdo Tali to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the sexual assault of a minor girl. The case stemmed from a First Information Report (FIR) filed by the victim, referred to as Miss A, on November 27, 2023, in which she accused Tali of raping her.
Following the FIR, a case was registered at the Women Police Station in Pasighat under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), specifically Sections 342, 354B, and 376, alongside Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The prosecution’s success is attributed to an in-depth investigation carried out by Inspector Ojum Riba, Officer-in-Charge of the Women Police Station, whose thoroughness helped build a strong case.
After the trial concluded, the Special Judge of the POCSO Court announced the verdict on September 18, 2025, convicting Tali on multiple charges. The judge imposed a 20-year sentence under Section 42 of the POCSO Act for sexual assault and levied a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 376(3) of the IPC for the rape of a girl under sixteen years of age. Additionally, Tali received a three-year sentence and a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 354B of the IPC for using criminal force to disrobe, along with a six-month sentence for wrongful confinement under Section 342. All sentences are to be served concurrently.
