An explosion rocked Delhi on Monday evening, just hours after authorities recovered nearly 3,000 kilograms of explosives linked to a terrorist cell. The blast occurred between 6:50 PM and 7 PM near the historic Red Fort, specifically at the Subhash Marg traffic signal close to Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station. At least eight people have died, and reports suggest that between 18 and 24 others sustained injuries. A senior police official indicated some unusual findings, noting that although three people were in the Hyundai i20, they found no shrapnel or puncture wounds typical of a bomb blast, raising questions about the nature of the explosion.
In light of the tragic event, Home Minister Amit Shah visited the explosion site, assessing the situation and meeting with the injured. “The NSG and NIA teams, along with the FSL, have commenced thorough investigations,” he stated, promising a comprehensive review of CCTV footage from the area. Shah communicated with the Delhi Police Commissioner throughout the event, and he assured the public that results would be published once the investigation is complete. So far, at least one person has been detained-the previous owner of the vehicle, who reportedly sold it to another individual. Simultaneously, authorities are interrogating eight individuals arrested earlier in the day in connection with a terror module allegedly tied to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind. These arrests led to the significant recovery of explosives and weapons.
The ongoing investigation involves the NIA, NSG, FSL, and the Delhi Police Special Cell, who have registered a case under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosives Act.
