Urgent Notice: Re-Exam Scheduled for November 22 Due to Incorrect Paper
A significant administrative mistake disrupted the Manipur Civil Services (Mains) Examination 2022 on Saturday, causing widespread frustration among candidates. During the morning session at both Imphal and Guwahati examination centres, students were incorrectly provided with the question paper for General Studies (GS) Paper-IV instead of the intended Paper-III.
The error was identified shortly after the exam commenced, leading to immediate chaos and confusion. The Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) quickly labeled the incident a “technical issue” and canceled both GS Paper-III and Paper-IV.
Later in the day, the MPSC announced new dates for the rescheduled exams, slated for November 22. According to the updated schedule, Paper-IV (General Studies-III) will take place from 9 AM to 12 noon, followed by Paper-V (General Studies-IV) from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM. The examination locations will remain unchanged, and previously issued e-Admit Cards will still be valid.
The MPSC clarified that the mix-up stemmed from a secured printing press error. Kh Lalmani Singh, the Controller of Examination, noted that a mismatch occurred between the header of the question paper for Paper-IV and its content, discovered upon unsealing the cover just before the exam began.
Candidates expressed their anger at the MPSC, accusing the commission of negligence and poor coordination. Many labeled the situation “unacceptable,” voicing concerns that it undermined their trust in the transparency and efficacy of the state’s leading recruitment agency.
One candidate stated, “We had prepared well for today’s paper, but now we have to start all over again,” adding that the new date might impose additional travel costs, especially for Kuki candidates traveling from Guwahati. Concerns were raised about potential compensation demands, and the possibility of legal complaints that could further complicate the overall examination process.
Another aspirant, who wished to remain anonymous, highlighted the difficulties posed by the new schedule: “Many of us work in government or private sectors and had taken special leave to appear for this exam. How will we manage the new schedule now?”
The examination took place simultaneously at the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) office in Guwahati and the Imphal Centre, where 199 candidates participated from the Guwahati location alone.
