Police Crackdown: Two Arrested in Kokrajhar for Illegal Gambling Activities
In a significant crackdown on illegal gambling, the Fakiragram Police in Kokrajhar district apprehended two individuals during a raid in the Laskarpara Chandamari area. The operation was conducted based on a tip-off received by the police, led by the Officer-in-Charge of Fakiragram Police Station, who targeted an illegal “dabu” (gambling) setup.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Jiarul Islam, 39, son of Rahmatullah Sheikh, from Mangurmarie, and Idris Ali Ahmed, 33, son of Mainul Haque, hailing from Chapar Sawapati in Dhubri district. Both individuals were caught at the scene of the illegal activity.
Following the raid, a case was filed at the Fakiragram Police Station under Case No. 57/2025, invoking sections 14 and 15 of the Assam Game and Betting Act of 1970. The accused have since been brought before the Kokrajhar court for further legal action.
This operation is part of a broader initiative by local law enforcement to combat illegal gambling in the region. Authorities have stated that they will continue to take stringent measures against such unlawful practices, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining law and order in Kokrajhar.
