In the early hours of Thursday, November 6, Assam Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) successfully repatriated 19 Bangladeshi nationals to their home country. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the news via social media platform X, stating, “Mission ‘Return Ticket’ completed before sunrise! At 2:15 AM, 19 Bangladeshi nationals-14 from Sribhumi and 5 from Cachar-were escorted back home through the Mahishasan Border Outpost, thanks to the collaboration between Assam Police and the BSF.”
The Chief Minister commended the swift and efficient actions taken by security forces in the Sribhumi and Cachar districts, emphasizing that the operation underscores the government’s firm stance against illegal immigration. “Every illegal immigrant apprehended in Assam is being deported promptly and legally,” Sarma noted.
Assam shares a 267.5 km international border with Bangladesh, encompassing the districts of Sribhumi, Cachar, Dhubri, and South Salmara-Mankachar. The state has one of three Integrated Check Posts (ICPs) in the Northeast along the India-Bangladesh border, located in Sutarkandi in Sribhumi. The other two ICPs are found in Dawki, Meghalaya, and Akhaura, Tripura. Furthermore, an ICP at Darranga in Assam facilitates trade and movement along the India-Bhutan border.
In light of last year’s political unrest in Bangladesh, Assam Police reiterated their commitment to preventing unlawful entries of non-Indians into the state. Authorities clarified that Indian passport holders stranded in Bangladesh would continue to be allowed to return through designated entry points.
