Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita met with Ecuador’s President Daniel Noboa Azin on November 6 in Quito to discuss enhancing and diversifying bilateral cooperation between India and Ecuador. During the meeting, Margherita delivered greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian people to President Noboa.
In a post on X, Margherita expressed her honor in meeting Noboa, stating, “Had a good discussion on strengthening and diversifying India–Ecuador bilateral cooperation.” Following her official discussions, she paid tribute at the Monument of the Heroes of August, a site honoring those who sacrificed for freedom, and reflected on their courage via her social media.
Margherita engaged with various Ecuadorian officials, including Ministers and Vice Ministers, to explore collaboration in critical sectors such as agriculture, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, education, culture, tourism, trade, textiles, health, and pharmaceuticals. She reaffirmed India’s dedication to South-South cooperation, emphasizing collaborative ties with Ecuador.
Additionally, Margherita met with Ecuador’s Minister of Foreign and Human Mobility Affairs, Gabriela Sommerfeld. The two discussed advancing cooperation across areas of mutual interest, culminating in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing partnership between the diplomatic training institutions of both nations.
On the previous day, Margherita and Sommerfeld officially inaugurated the new Embassy of India in Quito, a gesture underscoring India’s commitment to strengthening relations with Ecuador. Margherita noted, “This reflects India’s commitment to deepen its partnership with Ecuador and marks a new chapter in our bilateral relations.”
During her visit, Margherita also connected with Ecuadorian business representatives to identify opportunities for boosting trade relations between the two countries.
