In the Uriamghat area of Golaghat district along the Assam-Nagaland border, residents are expressing deep concerns for their safety and have organized a significant protest against the Assam government, led by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. On Tuesday, a massive rally took place at the Uriamghat border, with thousands of participants voicing their grievances.
Protesters accused Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Golaghat Minister Atul Bora of failing to ensure the safety of the indigenous people, who have been suffering from insecurity due to encroachments by Nagas. Shouting slogans such as “Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has not done his job; Atul Bora has not done his job,” the local population raised their voices against the government.
This large-scale rally, organized with the participation of various groups, saw residents categorizing their issues as a “life and death problem.” They declared their willingness to sacrifice their lives for border security, signifying the seriousness of their demands.
Despite ongoing protests against Naga encroachments since the evictions, the state government has not taken any significant action, leaving the border communities feeling threatened. Protesters argue that the government, which frequently claims to prioritize the safety of the indigenous people, has ultimately failed to provide protection to those living along the borders.
