Ashok Singhal Challenges Debabrata Saikia on Tribal Land Claims: A Confrontation Awaits
Senior BJP leader and Assam minister Ashok Singhal has strongly denied allegations from Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia, who accused him of encroaching on land within the reserved tribal belt of Sonapur. Singhal responded decisively, challenging Saikia to provide evidence for his claims. “If he can prove that even an inch of land belonging to me or my family has been illegally occupied, I will quit politics, leave Assam, and take sanyas in the Himalayas,” he stated.
In a dramatic move, Singhal issued a 24-hour ultimatum for Saikia to present proof of his allegations. If Saikia fails to do so, Singhal demands a public apology to the people of Assam. Asserting his commitment to integrity, Singhal emphasized that his political career has been guided by service rather than self-interest. “I have never taken government contracts or subsidies. I entered politics to serve the people, not for corruption or personal gain. Unlike Congress, we do not share the same character,” he said.
Further, Singhal questioned the basis of the opposition’s claims and called for greater transparency and factual clarity in the ongoing discourse.
