PM to Unveil New Guwahati Airport Terminal and Launch ₹10,601-Cr Fertiliser Plant
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday to invite him to inaugurate two significant development projects in the state. The 20-minute discussion, held at Sarma’s official residence, focused on the new terminal at Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport and the foundation stone for a ₹10,601-crore brownfield Ammonia-Urea complex at Namrup, as stated in a press release from the Assam government.
The new LGBI Airport terminal is anticipated to enhance connectivity in Northeast India, transforming Guwahati into a vital aviation hub. This state-of-the-art facility is equipped to accommodate over 13 million passengers each year, significantly alleviating air traffic congestion in the region.
Once operational, the Namrup Ammonia-Urea complex will be crucial in providing a steady supply of fertilizers to support agriculture throughout the Northeast. This project promises to contribute substantially to the region’s agricultural sustainability.
Expressing his gratitude, Chief Minister Sarma remarked, “We are grateful that Adarniya Modi Ji has kindly consented. We eagerly await his visit.” Later, on X (formerly Twitter), Sarma detailed the invitation, writing, “Had the privilege to call upon Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji in New Delhi today. We invited him to dedicate two major transformative projects for the people of Assam.
First is the brand new terminal of Guwahati’s LGBI Airport. This state-of-the-art project will elevate Guwahati into a major aviation hub and enable the city to handle over 13 million passengers. Second is the foundation stone for the ₹10,601 crore brownfield Ammonia-Urea complex at Namrup, which will secure critical fertilizer supply for the entire Northeast.”
The anticipated visit of the Prime Minister to Assam for these landmark events signifies another important step in the state’s infrastructure and industrial development.
