Gaurav Gogoi Pledges Development and Security in Assam-Meghalaya Border Villages
Deputy Leader of the Indian National Congress in the Lok Sabha and President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, Gaurav Gogoi, has embarked on a two-day visit to West Karbi Anglong, receiving an enthusiastic welcome from thousands of Congress supporters at Forest Bazar, near the Hojai–West Karbi Anglong border. This visit signifies a renewed outreach effort by Gogoi to strengthen grassroots connections and tackle pressing issues in the hill district.
Kicking off his tour under the 111 No. Rongkhang Legislative Assembly Constituency on Sunday, Gogoi began with a spiritual visit, praying at the Shiv Mandir in Kheroni Charali, followed by a trip to the Dayangmukh Bangali Mandir. These gestures highlight his commitment to cultural inclusivity and fostering harmony among communities. His day included multiple public interactions, such as meetings in Dayangmukh and street-corner gatherings in Kheroni and Donkamokam, where he engaged with locals about developmental challenges and party strategies.
In addition to large public gatherings, Gogoi held private discussions with district leaders, intellectuals, and opinion-makers of West Karbi Anglong. These closed-door sessions aimed to address the district’s socio-political environment and various developmental hurdles. He concluded the first day by spending the night at the Donkamokam Inspection Bungalow in preparation for a busy second day.
On Monday, Gogoi will focus on the 112 No. Amri Legislative Assembly Constituency, conducting interactive sessions with community leaders and intellectuals. A pivotal part of his itinerary is a visit to Tapat, a sensitive border village along the Assam–Meghalaya frontier, which has recently experienced violent incidents and attacks on West Karbi Anglong residents. This visit aims to provide firsthand insight into the situation and show support for affected families, while also drawing attention to the insecurity in border areas.
Gogoi is accompanied by several notable Congress figures, including Augustine Enghee, President of the West Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee; Raton Engti, President of the Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee; and former KAAC Executive Members Alice Engtipi, Bidyasing Rongpi, and Ashok Teron, along with other leaders from various branches of the party.
