Tripura Leads Northeast in Innovative Solar Energy Scheme for Agriculture
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Friday that the state has secured the top position among northeastern states in the implementation of the PM-KUSUM scheme, which promotes solar energy use in agriculture. Saha expressed his satisfaction with this achievement, stating it reflects his government’s commitment to advancing clean energy, empowering rural communities, and ensuring sustainable development.
The PM-KUSUM scheme, managed by the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Authority (TREDA), provides heavily subsidized solar-powered pumps to farmers. This initiative aims to replace diesel pumps to lower irrigation costs and mitigate pollution. “It is a shining example of sustainable progress! Tripura has secured the first position among all northeastern states in implementing the PM-KUSUM scheme,” Saha shared on social media.
Farmers under this scheme benefit from reduced irrigation expenses while contributing to the broader adoption of renewable energy in agriculture, a vital step in lowering carbon emissions in rural India. Saha also mentioned that Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath received the prestigious award from Union Minister for Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi during a Regional Workshop in Guwahati. The event was attended by Power Secretary Abhishek Singh and TREDA’s Joint Director Debasish Sukladas.
This recognition marks a significant milestone for Tripura, highlighting the state government’s proactive efforts to promote solar energy, empower farmers, and promote long-term sustainability in the agricultural sector.
