Uniting Cultures: How Nyishi and Mising Communities Forge Stronger Bonds
In a significant step towards strengthening their shared heritage, the Nyishi community of Arunachal Pradesh and the Mising community of Assam have concluded a “Treaty of Friendship.” This agreement aims to renew ancient bonds and enhance people-to-people relations between the two communities. The treaty, brokered by the Nyishi Elite Society (NES) and the Mising Ba:Ne Kebang (MBK), acknowledges the deep-rooted kinship stemming from their common ancestral lineage of Abo Tani, as reported by The Arunachal Times.
Both communities emphasized that their historically rooted relationship should guide contemporary interactions and must be preserved for future generations. The signing was celebrated on social media, with Assam Minister Ranoj Pegu expressing delight over the treaty’s endorsement, highlighting its importance in fostering collaboration.
The treaty consists of 11 key articles focused on various aspects, including mutual recognition, respect, recognition of shared heritage, and efforts to strengthen relations. It underscores the importance of promoting dignity in social and economic matters while also encouraging cultural collaboration.
Additionally, the agreement outlines a democratic and conciliatory approach for resolving disputes through a standing coordination committee, which will be established post-signing. It highlights the necessity for ongoing goodwill, collective development efforts, and collaboration in politics, economics, commerce, social issues, and cultural exchange.
The treaty was officially signed by NES President Prof. Tana Showren, General Secretary Heri Maring, All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) President Jamru Ruja, and All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) President Lizen Gyadi. This historic agreement marks a promising chapter in the relationship between the Nyishi and Mising communities, paving the way for a stronger, united future.
